    The Human Resources Manager is both a strategic and hands-on role that provides full cycle Human Resources support to multiple sites for our Rail Business. The role is critical in executing our people initiatives, providing great internal customer support, and driving HR functional excellence and process improvement.  Experience and excitement for leading a large hourly and non-exempt population while serving as a valued business partner is critical to the success of this position. Experience leading large associate populations is very important with a critical eye on improving employee engagement, leadership effectiveness, and enhancing the frontline employee experience is important.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide strategic Business Partner support to Leadership and Management
    • Partner with business leaders to understand the challenges and ensure effective and timely HR support
    • The ability to create and execute an HR strategy that aligns with regional and organization goals
    • Lead HR investigations and ensure appropriate outcomes and follow-up
    • Serve as a strategic advisor and coach to the leaders and managers in the areas of management and development
    • A true hands-on approach, as well as the ability to successfully monitor the "pulse" of the employees
    • Experience with rapid and complex, changing work environment
    • Passion and experience in developing innovative HR solutions and process improvements; in a fast-paced labor-intensive environment.
    • Ability to effectively staff frontline / labor positions in an effective manner, in partnership with the Talent Acquisition Center of Excellence.
    • Strong project management skills; ability to lead projects at a network level to influence and obtain buy-in, and then drive execution and achievement of the right results
    • Success in creating and driving effective and positive employee relations, retention and reward programs
    • The ability to be comfortable with high volume workload and not be afraid to "roll up your sleeves."
    • Comfortable and skilled with executing HR and organization strategy in a way that has positive impact on the frontline workforce.

    Professional Experience

    • Previous experience managing change and uncertainty with an organization, while showing the ability to anticipate and respond to future changes and opportunities.
    • High energy level and a positive attitude. Comfortable performing multi-faceted projects in conjunction with day-to-day tactical activities.
    • Demonstrated competence in broad fields of human resources including organization design, change management, talent acquisition, employee engagement and relations, talent and organization development, performance management, compensation and benefits.
    • Proven ability to engage and interact with a frontline workforce within a Union and Non-Union environment.
    • Experience working with Union representatives and facilitating the resolution of labor disputes.
    • Ability to communicate and act with a high level of passion and enthusiasm and be energized by the opportunity to drive HR programs.
    • Proven project and time management skills with ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Strong business acumen and analytical ability
    • Ability to prioritize competing demands and objectives using sound judgment and ability to balance other business considerations. Service orientation, but assertive/persuasive when required.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
    • 7-10 years human resource business partner experience
    • Certifications for Human Resources Professionals (PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP
    • Experience supporting hourly employee client groups with employee populations of 500+ employees
    • The ability to think strategically and anticipate future trends, needs and expectations is required
    • A continuous improvement mindset is required
    • Demonstrated experience in talent development
    • Experience in labor and employee relations with emphasis on positive employee engagement
    • Ability to travel up to 25% (air, car etc)
