The Railyard Train Coordinator (Yard Master) will be responsible for effective and efficient coordinating of inbound/ outbound trains and efficient railcar switching planning.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of train crews in the rail yard.
  • Communicate to train crews where to move cars to fit the planned configuration or to load/unload freight.
  • Ensure that trains are switched correctly before leaving the yard.
  • Arrange for defective cars to be switched from a train for repairs.
  • Break up or put together train cars according to a schedule.
  • Place and pull cars.
  • Delegate work and provide directions.
  • Ability to cover vacancies of all positions.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Conductor certification preferred.
  • Engineer certification preferred.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills to effectively relay important information to others.
  • Knowledgeable in switching activities.
  • Capable of learning the required computer programs to perform the job. TPP, YardViz, TSS, etc.
  • Capable of handling several different tasks at once and has a motivated attitude.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background verification, physical and drug screening
    • The Federal Rail Administration sets and enforces safety regulations and standards for railroad operations. Use of cannabis is strictly prohibited. If applicable for the position you are applying to, and if you are offered the position, you will have to take and pass a drug screen.
