Responsibilities

As a Lead Heavy Equipment Mechanic, you are responsible in supervising mechanics that make repairs to heavy equipment within our terminals. In addition, you are responsible for assessing and repairing heavy duty lift equipment at the railyard as well as performing maintenance and mechanical repairs on side loaders (loaded container handler), hostlers (semi tractor), forklifts and support equipment.

 

Additional responsibilities

  • Partner with the Regional Maintenance Manager and Terminal Manager to prioritize the tasks for the day/week/month.
  • Offer solutions and recommendations to meet the maintenance needs of the terminal.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in maintenance and be able to provide technical training and leadership to other maintenance team members.
  • Manage inventory for the location, making purchases through vendors as approved.
  • Handle administrative job duties regarding inspections, repairs, and purchases.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of heavy equipment mechanic / service technician experience required
  • Previous crane mechanic experience a plus
  • Hydraulic systems experience required (pumps, valves, motors, filters, and hoses)
  • Driveline component repair experience (axles, bearings, ring, etc.)
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions
  • Ability to work in a safety focused environment
  • Strong communication skills
  • Strong Leadership skills
  • Ability to lead a team and provide direction
  • Ability to lift 50lbs
  • Must have a Valid Driver’s License
  • Must pass a pre-employment background verification, physical and drug screening.
    • The Federal Rail Administration sets and enforces safety regulations and standards for railroad operations. Use of cannabis is strictly prohibited. If applicable for the position you are applying to, and if you are offered the position, you will have to take and pass a drug screen.
