The General Manager, Rail will plan, support, coordinate, and oversee multisite operations activities, ensuring development and implementation of efficient operations and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the organization. This role will report to the Vice President, Safety, Training & Operations Excellence.

Responsibilities

General Manager Rail
• Responsible for driving the ConGlobal culture through values and customer service standards.
• Partner to develop and execute strategic plans to enhance switching & terminal operations.
• Directs, manages and is accountable for rail operations, focused on switching operations.
• Oversee daily switching operations to ensure adherence to FRA standards and company policies.
• Investigates accidents and incidents, identifies root cause, and resolves or escalates.
• Develops and implements standards, practices, and training programs that ensure uniform operating procedures for switching facilities.
• Collaborate with peers, site leaders, and Terminal Managers to enhance switching and Rail operations.
• Develops & drives terminal strategies through people, systems & processes.
• Appropriately plan and operate an annual budget.
• Oversees all safety audits to ensure compliance with ConGlobal policies & procedures, along with FRA, PUC, and OSHA requirements.
• Analyzes lagging and leading performance indicators and recommends process improvements.
• Partners with all Corporate functions to identify process gaps & implement solutions.
• Collaborates with Human Resources to improve employee engagement & retention.
• Mentors direct reports, ensures they achieve their personal & professional goals
• Possesses a “roll up your sleeves” mentality, comfortable with a high-volume workload.
• Leads by example, enforces & upholds all ConGlobal rules, regulations & policies.
• Tackles and resolves challenges through collaborative communication.
• Ensured excellence in safety, profitability & service.
• Customer focused; problem solving, performance improvement & wallet share increases.

Qualifications

Required

• 7+ years of experience; intermodal, automotive, transportation, logistics, or operations
• FRA experience is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Logistics, Engineering, or another industry-related field preferred
• Experience managing multi-site Union and Non-Union sites required.
• Ability to travel up to 50%
• Analytical thought process with strong business acumen
• Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the industry
• Exceptional organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office / Web Based Data systems.
• Ability to effectively communicate to all stakeholders.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs
• Comfortable climbing ladders and stairs, including on/off railcars
