Responsibilities

As a Railyard Assistant Ramp Manager at ConGlobal, you will play a vital leadership role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our railyard involving our switch crew. Working closely with the Ramp Manager, you'll ensure operational excellence in safety, train performance, productivity, maintenance, and team development. will be responsible for overseeing train operations, managing a crew, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, and optimizing the efficiency of day-to-day operations. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can navigate complex logistics, respond to on-the-ground challenges, and always maintain a high level of safety.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Oversight: Supervise the scheduling, coordination, and execution of train operations to ensure timely and efficient transportation.
  • Crew Management: Lead, train, and supervise a team of conductors, engineers, and other crew members, ensuring they adhere to safety standards and company policies.
  • Safety Compliance: Monitor and enforce strict safety guidelines to prevent accidents, injuries, and damage to equipment. Conduct regular safety briefings and audits to ensure ongoing compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Problem-Solving & Troubleshooting: Respond to operational issues, delays, and emergencies. Troubleshoot equipment failures and coordinate with maintenance teams for repairs.
  • Logistical Planning: Assist in the development and implementation of operational strategies to maximize efficiency and reduce downtime.
  • Reporting: Maintain records of train schedules, crew hours, equipment status, and any incidents or accidents. Prepare reports for senior management.
  • Team Development: Mentor junior staff and contribute to ongoing training programs to develop team skills and performance.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in Intermodal, Switching, Transportation, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management.
  • 1–3 years of leadership experience in a related environment.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management skills.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols, regulations, and emergency response procedures within the railroad industry.

  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick decisions under time constraints.

  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and other MS Office tools.
  • Must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Must have open availability, including weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background check, physical, and drug screening.

      • The Federal Rail Administration sets and enforces safety regulations and standards for railroad operations. Use of cannabis is strictly prohibited. If applicable for the position you are applying to, and if you are offered the position, you will have to take and pass a drug screen. 
  • Open availability required Monday-Friday with Rotating weekends

Preferred:

  • Prior experience in rail switching, trainmaster, or safety management.

Work Environment:

  • The role requires working in an outdoor railyard environment, often in varying weather conditions.
  • You will manage a fast-paced, dynamic environment and lead a team of terminal staff.
