Responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled Port Reefer Mechanic to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and repair of refrigerated containers ("reefers") used in maritime and port logistics. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with reefer units from major manufacturers (e.g., Carrier, Thermo King, Daikin) and a strong background in electrical and refrigeration systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues in refrigerated containers

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on reefer units

  • Monitor reefer performance during terminal operations

  • Document repairs and maintenance logs accurately

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational policies

  • Communicate with operations teams to prioritize urgent maintenance needs

  • Operate necessary tools and testing equipment safely and efficiently

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Refrigerated Shipping Container Technician or similar role.
  • 2+ years of experience working with refrigerated containers or HVAC systems

  • Understanding of electrical and refrigeration systems

  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics

  • EPA Universal Certification (or ability to obtain)

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a forklift.
  • Willingness to obtain Forklift Certification
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background verification, physical and drug screening.
    • The Federal Rail Administration sets and enforces safety regulations and standards for railroad operations. Use of cannabis is strictly prohibited. If applicable for the position you are applying to, and if you are offered the position, you will have to take and pass a drug screen. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in port, terminal, or maritime logistics environments

  • OEM training from Carrier, Daikin, or Thermo King

  • TWIC card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential)

  • Familiarity with reefer monitoring and diagnostic software
